The mayfly (Palingenia longicauda) -Tiszavirág in Hungarian- a water based flying insect with a very short (few hours) life span. Usually during June when the weather start to warm up at certain parts along the river Tisza this nature spectacle starts during the late afternoon hours up to sunset and may be observed for 10 days.

It may be observed since nature does not comply with prediction and during my visit I had to prepare for disappointment. Questions arise what are you doing at such scenario? Are you willing to wait patiently? Perhaps best to talk to the local since if they giving up on “the show” its mostly likely called off my Mother Nature as well. What about a backup plan are you going to photograph another subject? Perhaps if you´re driving a longer distance sleeping in the area maybe a good idea and prepare with a schedule (e.g. sunrise photography) and take some pictures of other subjects.

Well, you have some pictures in your head which you want to take but even if the “subject” is on strike there are other individual to photograph.

Above and below some of the (low resolution) pictures which I could shoot from the Tisza mayfly as well as a couple of “alternative” shots. Again you most likely need only the longest lens you have and maybe a macro.

“The chase” I wish it would be crisper more vibrant and … well simply just better.
