Berlin the capital of Germany is such a vibrant place, a melting pot of different cultures and people. If you speak only English you easily get by, this is not necessarily the case in other cities of Germany. In some coffee shops, German as a language is useless. But to be serious again, Berlin offers you an open-minded as well as diverse culture. When it comes to street photography, I reckon besides Paris, the German capital offers a lot…

From characters, landmarks, colourful places as well as a vibrant street life. If you’re in Berlin check out the Museum of Photography within this the Helmut Newton Foundation. Side note –not related to photography- if you’re in town check – out the Bud Spencer Museum as well 🙂

Few takeaways from the short trip to Berlin:

  • on a crop sensor, 35 mm is better than 50mm
  • a wide-angle lens may distort the image
  • frame it
  • isolate the subject
  • hdr – is it necessary?
  • long exposure is interesting even during the day if you have a filter

I like to go with the flow and since Berlin has so much to offer there is something to take away. The metro is colourful, simple yet very functional, bright colours are the perfect background. The landmarks are a must and if you use a unique composition it’s more than a snapshot. Berlin has so many great characters as well which if put in the right frame or perhaps even isolate; it tells a story. End-of-the-day drawing with light is a kind of storytelling…
