I have a sweet spot for Ethiopian coffee. When the Hungarian coffee shop Mantra started to roast their own coffee called Basha Bekele from Ethiopia needless to say it sparked my interest.

It comes from small farmers in the South of the country; this particular lot goes by the name of Basha Bekele. It’s fairly sought after; as the guys from Mantra Coffee were explaining they ordered some samples, done a test roast and cupping and wrote straight to the wholesaler as top coffee can move quickly. Gardelli from Italy wrote an extensive review on this particular lot as well.

Mantra did very well with this lot, great quality coffee and good roasting profile too. Natural coffee at its finest expression.

I tried it at home in a V60, French press and as an espresso as well. It worked like a charm.

My tasting note (on an espresso):

Deep flavours, berry fruit with refreshing well balanced acidity and body. Followed by nectarine, boysenberry, milk chocolate and very long finish.
