About – Kristian Kielmayer, Wine and Spirits Consultant Educator
As a wine and spirits consultant educator with over 20 years of experience, I’ve worked across Europe helping people and brands unlock the deeper meaning behind taste. My background combines economics, marketing, and sensory science — allowing me to connect what’s in the glass with what drives value in the market.
From classrooms to vineyards, from strategy decks to tasting rooms, I help producers, educators, and institutions build clarity, confidence, and connection. For me, the future of wine communication lies not in jargon but in genuine storytelling that links people, place, and product.
What drives me is curiosity — about how aroma, flavour, and memory connect, how craftsmanship meets science, and how culture shapes taste. That same curiosity extends beyond wine: through spirits, coffee, beer, and sake, I explore how each beverage tells a story about origin and identity.
Travel and photography are part of my creative process. Whether capturing vineyards, landscapes, or the people behind them, I look for moments that speak — just as great wines and spirits do. My book Natural Wines of Hungary grew from this passion for nature, authenticity, and the human stories behind each bottle.
My Approach – Connecting Flavour, Story, and Value
Every great beverage tells a story. My approach combines sensory training with brand strategy to help people understand not only what they taste, but why it matters.
By integrating sensory science with communication and marketing, I support wineries, distilleries, and beverage professionals in expressing their identity clearly — from label to market launch.
Education, Consulting, and Communication
Over the years, I’ve developed and delivered numerous wine and spirits education programs — from WSET and sommelier training to tailor-made workshops and international tastings.
Through consulting, I assist producers and hospitality teams in defining their message, refining their positioning, and creating experiences that connect emotionally with audiences.
I believe that expertise matters only when it creates meaning for others. Whether teaching, consulting, or tasting, my goal is to turn knowledge into connections — helping people experience the same sense of discovery that first drew me into this world.
Curiosity and Collaboration
Collaboration has always been at the core of my work. I regularly engage with professionals from wine, coffee, and chocolate fields to explore sensory parallels and develop educational tools that bridge categories. These collaborations keep learning alive and remind us that flavour is both science and art — shaped by soil, climate, and culture.
